My favorite event every year - Empire Hill Climb
The Empire Hill Climb is our local event. It’s an event that ran back in the 70s & 80s and then came back in 2014. This was the 6th event since it’s revival and probably the best one yet. It seemed like the spectators had a great time and I certainly had a blast driving.
This event isn’t a typical track day. We get to take over a small Northern Michigan town for the day and even though it’s well announced locally, people aren’t always sure what to expect when they realize the town is full of race cars for the day. It’s fun to talk with car enthusiasts young and old downtown and then put on a show when my run group is up.
2019 was the second year I’ve run the event. Last year I wanted to take a run at grip driving the hill. It was probably a good thing I didn’t try to drift it, because it’s an intimidating task. In the past year my driving has improved a ton and I felt confident. So this year I decided to forget about the time slip and competing for a trophy. I wanted to drift Wilco Road on all six runs and see how aggressive I could be doing it.
It was a successful day. We captured some great video thanks to Novum Productions and several fans watching from on top. Turbo Tara Media snapped some amazing photos as well and those are all below for your review.
