my first drift competition, a Formula drift pro 2 qualifier...
Perhaps making my first drift competition a Formula Drift licensing competition doesn’t seem like a great idea. Let me tell you that there’s nothing like sitting on the line next to your competitor and knowing you only have once chance to put on the best lead / follow possible to ensure your spot in in the next round. What a thrill.
Friday was practice day and it wasn’t without it’s casualties. I was very fortunate to keep it out of the wall, especially given that a month prior to MDU I wrecked my car at the same track. I think there were 5 or 6 cars that wrecked bad enough that they were unable to fix them for the competition.
On competition day there were several drivers that scored bye runs in the less than 40 car field due to the casualties of practice day. I was not fortunate to get any bye runs, so I was going to have a long road. My expectations weren’t too high and I felt very fortunate to win my first battle, even though I lost the next two.
I learned a lot this weekend and was happy to have the take-aways to carry with me.
