Turbo build, First test
This was a big day. This time I was able to drift the car after it spent the second half of the winter with Cody Loveland Racing getting a custom turbo kit built. See details on the new turbo setup on the 350z drift build page.
It was a typical season opener in Michigan. Cold and mostly dry. It had been about 5 months since the last time I’ve drifted the car. With more power on tap, I thought I’d pick back up a bit better than I left off. I was surprised when I was struggling at first. What I didn’t realize is how different driving a turbo power package was. I was very comfortable with the track but found out that my muscle memory didn’t apply anymore. I had to learn how to drive the track and car completely over. Keeping RPM up was much more important than ever before and once I actually thought about where the new powerband was, things fell right into place.
The engine and turbo package was 100% reliable and allowed me to focus on learning to drive the car. It was a good day.
